Fundraising Five
Finding the funds to bring your creative projects to life can be daunting. That's how our fundraising five ended up here, lost in the funding fog. I'm Holly, board member and mentor.
Hi, I'm Luke. I'm a visual artist.
And Jess, development coordinator. I wear lots of hats.
I'm Angus. I volunteer with the local musical society. We're regional and running on passion.
I'm Amara, CEO. Big vision. Not a big budget.
Right then, shall we?
Fundraising from the private sector plays a vital role in supporting Australian arts and culture.
It adds to the money you might get from government grants and income you can generate yourself.
It's important for financial sustainability.
Exactly. Now, to your left is fundraising events. I love events.
Yeah, but if you're running an event, you need to be careful about getting bang for your buck.
I wish we had time. We might never leave.
Up next, we have business partnerships, corporate partnerships and sponsorships.
Businesses want to stand out from their competitors, connect with customers and build a positive reputation in their community. Partnering with arts organisations can help them do that.
How does it work?
Arts organisations get cash or in-kind support in exchange for delivering benefits to their corporate partners.
So it's about value for money on both sides.
You've got it. Strong partnerships solve real challenges and deliver results.
Okay, so here comes a big one.
Some people give money because they can and they love the arts. Unlike business partners, donors don't expect any material benefits in return. It's about supporting something they care about and recognising how important culture is for everyone.
First, we have individual giving. There's donor programs, major gifts, giving days, capital campaigns. The list goes on. Here, relationships are key.
It's about people feeling connected to your mission and convinced of its value.
Then we have trusts and foundations. Trusts and foundations are set up to give money to causes they care about. They fund the arts to create meaningful change.
Some have open grant rounds and others have invitation-only opportunities.
Aligning to their impact priorities and values is essential.
Finally, bequests. This is where someone leaves you a gift in their will.
Let's save that one for later.
And we're back.
See, it's all cleared up.
See you later, folks. Okay, I think I've got the lay of the land.
Oh, look at all this.
So what now?
This is just the beginning, but there are resources and support available to help you grow your skills, knowledge and confidence. Opportunity waits for you behind every door.
